Blow to AUS: Star player injured in BPL, may miss World Cup

Aussie opening batsman David Warner will be flying back to Australia due to an injury and he may also miss the 50 over world cup tournament. Warner is currently facing a ban from international cricket for his involvement in ball tampering issue. But now his return to the national team may be delayed due to this injury.

Warner to have an early exit from BPL

Warner is currently playing the Bangladesh Premier League. The left-hand batsman was having some issues with his left elbow and he sustained this injury during the match against Rangpur Riders. In that game, he was forced to bat at number three.

The Aussie batsman will still play for Sylhet Sixers and will feature in the matches to be played on January 18 and 19. He will fly to Australia on January 21 and will be assessed for his injury. This means the Aussie batsman will miss the remaining five matches of Sixers.

Cricket Australia’s official news site reported that while the extent of the injury remains unknown, Warner will continue to play for the Sylhet Sixers before he departs, meaning he will feature in matches on the 18th and 19th.

Headache for Sixers

Warner’s presence at the top had made things easier for the Sixers in BPL. Warner’s experience proved crucial at the top of the batting order and his leadership skills were effective as well.

But now it will be tough for the franchise to get a replacement for the Aussie captain.
