Captain Kohli may have failed once again to win an overseas Test series but Kohli, the batsman continues to reach newer heights. Kohli has now become the first Indian to score 4000 runs as a Test captain. He achieved this elusive feat during the fourth Test against England.
Earlier this year Kohli had surpassed MS Dhoni to become India’s highest-scoring Test captain. The 29-year-old continued his terrific form in the ongoing Test series against England as well and has amassed 544 runs so far in eight innings. He has scored two hundreds and three fifties during four Tests and is the highest run-maker in the series by a fair margin.
With 4000 runs as Test captain, the Indian batsman has also joined an elite list of Test captains. Kohli now is at number 10 among the highest scoring Test captains. Graeme Smith is sitting at the top of this list with 8659 runs while two Australians Allan Border (6623) and Ricky Ponting (6542) occupy the second and the third position respectively.
The fact that all remaining captains from the top ten are not playing anymore means that the Indian captain has a real chance to climb the ladder quickly and looking at his current form it seems that he will reach to the top soon. And in fact Kohli is the fastest to reach the 4000 mark. He has achieved this feat in his 65 innings as the Test captain. Kohli has scored 16 hundreds and nine fifties while leading Team India.
Twitter too took note of this feat and fans congratulated the Indian captain for reaching this milestone.
