Indian Skipper, Virat Kohli has recently opened up about his experiences on getting selected in the Indian team, his first day in the dressing room, stress and much more.
In an interview to the TOI, when asked about his memories from the first day at the dressing room, Virat said, “I clearly remember sitting with my mom and watching the news on the day of the selection meeting,” he said.
“My name just flashed on the TV but I thought they might just be spreading rumors or something like that. ThenĀ five minutes later, I got a call from the Board that I had been selected. I got goosebumps. I was shaking. It was a very special day,” he added.
He continued, “I clearly remember walking into the team meeting. I was asked to give a speech in the team room. It was nerve-wracking for me with so many great Indian players there. They were looking at me. Which we now do to younger guys to intimidate them, make them nervous. These are my first memories.”
When asked to advise students on how to deal with Pressure, Virat had the most comforting reply. He said, “Even during my board examinations, I would find the time to go and play. That would relieve my stress. That would give me a lot of joy, made me think positive and look forward to studying again.”
And finally, when he was asked if his personal goal was to hit a triple hundred, he replied like a leader, “The only goal is to win games. That’s the goal of other persons, not me.”
Virat is one of the most decorated cricket players ever and in 2017, he was awarded the ICC ODI player of the year which he had also won in 2012.
Kohli sits 4th in the Orange Cap standings in this year’s IPL even where Royal Challengers Bangalore has had an unimpressive start.
