Tanveer Sangha Nationality: Australian
Tanveer Sangha Father : In a bid to find better opportunities, Sangha’s family moved to Australia in 1997. Joga Singh works as a Taxi driver in Sydney, while her mother works as an accountant in Sydney. It is quite strange to know both Tanveer Sangha and his father never had a liking towards cricket during their childhood days. After settling in Australia, Tanveer would play a lot of volleyball. He would also travel to India along with his family during his summer vacations. His visits to India came to a halt when he was 14 as he started to master leg-spin.
“I haven’t been to India for four or five years now due to my cricket commitments. But I loved it there, there were always people around to play with and we have a great family there,” Tanveer told The Tribune.
Sangha is known to be an aggressive leg-spinner and his ability to pick wickets regularly gives him the edge over other bowlers. Rashid Khan, Adam Zampa and Sandeep Lamichhane are a few cricketers he looks up to as far as leg-spin is concerned. It didn’t take too long for Sangha to get noticed as in a few years he was drafted in Australian team at the under-16 level. At just 17 years and 346 days, Tanveer was signed by Sydney Thunders and thereby became the youngest contracted player in BBL.
Tanveer Sangha impressed one and all with his fine display of leg-spin exploits in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. He ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker for his country. In 6 matches, he claimed 15 wickets at an average of 11.47.
Currently, he plays for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League. In 7 matches, he has claimed 13 wickets so far at an economy of 7.22 and best figures of 4-14. He made his debut for Sydney Thunder on 12th December 2020 in 2020-21 Big Bash League. He ended his first BBL game with a fine spell of 2 for 26 in 4 overs, including the important wickets of Andre Fletcher and Ben Dunk.
