Lucknow team is the second IPL franchise owned by Sanjiv Goenka with the first franchise being the Rising Pune Supergiants. He owned the franchise in 2016. The franchise came into existence as a replacement for Chennai Super Kings, who were banned due to fixing scandal, and ended their stint in 2017 by reaching the finals.
