Under the leadership of Sachin Baby, Kerala reached the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy in the 2018-19 season for the first time in the Ranji Trophy history. For someone, who never took any formal cricket coaching, it was indeed a special feat. From learning the game only by watching Television to sharing the dressing room with the greats like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, Sachin Baby’s story serves as an inspiration for all the young kids who aspire to become a cricketer.
Sachin’s first love was football and not cricket. He used to play football with his friends during his school days. However, her mother’s love for the game played an instrumental role in helping the Kerala cricketer reach where he is today.
Sachin Baby was born and brought up in a town called Thodpuzha in Kerala. There was neither a cricket ground nor any cricket coaching centre. The Kerala batsman used to learn about the game only by watching it on Television. On one fine day, Sachin saw an advertisement in a newspaper regarding upcoming trails and was fortunate enough to get selected.
He slowly rose through the ranks via age-group cricket and made his name at the state level. He made his first-class debut in 2009. It took him some time to find success in first-class cricket. It took 25 innings for Sachin to score his maiden first-class century. His white-ball career though took off pretty well.
Sachin Baby captained Kerala in the 2012-13 Vijay Hazare Trophy and led the side to the quarter-finals of the tournament. The 32-year old cricketer received nationwide praise after leading Kerala to the semi-finals of the 2018-19 Ranji season for the first time in the history of Ranji Cricket.
