Hailing from Ambalangoda, Mendis was born on 7th July 1995. The all-rounder started his career with Kandy in the year 2017-18. He came into the limelight in the Premier League Tournament (18-19), where he displayed his all-round skills. Mendis ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker for Motor Sports Club with 612 runs and 30 wickets in just nine matches. On the back of his consistent domestic performances, Mendis was awarded a national call-up and made his debut in February this year. He was then also a part of the national side in the T20 World Cup.

He represented Dambulla, FOG-Seenigama, Moors Sports Club, Sri Lanka A, Sri Lanka emerging Team, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Kandy, Sinhalese Sports Club, Sri Lanka Board President’s XI and Sri Lanka U-19. Apart from these teams he played for Dambulla Viking in the Lanka Premier League.
