Known for his aggressive batting style yet controlled stroke play and deceptive slower ball variations, he caught the eye of selectors in Barbados at a very young age. Nayeem Young has represented West Indies in two consecutive Under-19 World Cups in 2018 and 2020. He started playing competitive cricket at a very young age of 7. He was selected in the West Indies U-19 set-up for the camp ahead of the 2018 World cup. From then he had gone onto play a lot of age-group cricket for the West Indies and was even named in the 15 man squad for the U-19 World Cup in 2018 at the age of 17. Consistent performances in the U-19 tours across the globe saw him secure a much important position in the West Indies U-19 team for the World Cup in 2020. In 21 youth ODI’s played so far he has racked up 351 runs and has picked up 24 wickets. He showed consistent performance in the U-19 World Cup in 2020 and was named in the team of the tournament. He scored 140 runs in the tournament which included two half-centuries; as well as eight wickets with best figures of 5-45. He also held four catches and ended up as the player of the match in two of the league matches.
