Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the most admired personality in India. According to a recent survey by yougov.co.uk, Dhoni was leading the points table and is far ahead of current Indian skipper Virat Kohli and legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. MS also became the second most admired person in India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The final results were announced after the website conducted various polls and surveys with a database of more than 4 million people. Dhoni is leading the survey with a score of 7.7 %, Tendulkar was the next best with 6.8 %, while it was shocking to see Kohli securing a score of only 4.8%.
DHONI’S ACHIEVEMENTS
MS Dhoni, who has won the T20 World Cup and the ICC World cup, is the most successful India Test captain of all time, winning 27 games and leading them to the No 1 spot in the ICC Rankings in 2009 for the first time ever. Dhoni still continues to play for India in the ODI and T20I games as a wicketkeeper and batsman, and maybe this is the reason that he is on the public spotlight and leads more points than the retired cricketer, master blaster ‘Sachin Tendulkar’.But on the sad note, Dhoni’s performance was not up to mark in the England T20I tour, due to which he faced severe criticism from everyone in the country.
Superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are among the other sportspersons who enjoy widespread popularity in India. While Ronaldo bagged 2.60 per cent votes Messi secured 2.00 percent votes. With 1.60 per cent votes, David Beckham is also in the elusive list.
MS Dhoni, who lead the Indian cricket team to the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011, recently added another feather to his cap and his existing list of achievements.
During the recently concluded England tour, he became the fourth Indian and 12th person in ODI history to score 10,000 runs. He achieved this milestone during the second ODI against England at Lord’s.
Virat Kohli will lead the Indian cricket team in a five-match Test series against England, which is India’s first tour of the country since 2014. The first Test begins on August 1 at Edgbaston.
