Mayank Yadav, the spectacular bowler from Delhi, stands 6 feet 1 inch tall. Born on June 17, 2002, he has quickly been the focus of the current IPL season. Mayank, known for his raw pace and impressive control over line and length, has tremendously impacted the cricketing world in just two IPL games.
Vijay Dahiya, Assistant Coach of Lucknow Super Giants and a key member of the LSG scouting team, first spotted Mayank’s talent two years ago during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Dahiya was stunned to see Mayank in action in the nets and immediately recognized his potential. He recommended to the management to invest in Mayank, and as a result, Mayank was bought by Lucknow ahead of the IPL 2022 season at a base price of 20 lakhs.
His exceptional performances in the IPL have confirmed Dahiya’s faith in his ability. With his raw pace and ability to control the game with his bowling, he has won back-to-back Player of the Match awards, becoming the first player in the history of IPL to do so, in games against PBKS and RCB, respectively.

Mayank Yadav clocked 156.7 kph, which is the fastest ball recorded in IPL 2024. His extraordinary bowling speed first drew attention when he bowled nine deliveries over 150 kmph in his IPL debut against PBKS, taking three key wickets to lead his team to their first victory. In his second game against RCB, he continued to show off his blazing pace. He took his first wicket, Glenn Maxwell, with a delivery recorded at 153.7 kph. Mayank did not stop there, he took his second wicket, Cameron Green, with a gem at 146.2 kph. He got Patidar, who looked to be settling in, with a delivery of about 150 kph. During his scorching spell, he reached a speed of 156.7 kph, the fastest ball recorded in IPL 2024, breaking his previous record of 155.8 kph from the first game.
Mayank, a product of Delhi’s famous Sonnet Club, was coached under the guidance of the late Tarak Sinha, who had previously worked with stars like Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra, and Anjum Chopra.

Mayank has limited experience under his belt, having played only 30 games so far. He spent most of the 2022 season on the bench for LSG and was later ruled out with a torn hamstring during the 2023 season. However, despite his short career, his performances have been so impressive that they caught the attention of cricket legends like Brett Lee and Dale Steyn. They praised the young Indian pacer for his raw pace and potential.
Mayank will now aim to remain fit and accurate, learning from the cautionary tale of Umran Malik, who made headlines for his pace after his IPL debut for SRH in 2021 but has since been sidelined.
