Marlon Samuels (Windies Cricketer)

Marlon Samuels is a Jamaican cricketer who was born on 5th February 1981 who is a confident right-handed batsman. He made his international debut at the age of 19. He was an important member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20. He was also adjudged as the man of the match in the final of both the editions of the tournaments which made him the first player to achieve this feat.

He made his international Test debut against Australia in 2000 and his ODI debut against Sri Lanka during the ICC Knockout Trophy inn 2000. He was named one of the Wisden cricketers of the year in 2013. In 2016, Marlon Samuels was named as the ODI player of the year and the cricketer of the year by the West Indies Cricket Board in 2016.

Controversies

• He was allegedly involved in match-fixing. The information revealed that his telephonic conversations between a bookmaker, Mukesh Kochcha and him and the Indian police alleged him for leaking out team information to that bookie prior to the 1st ODI between the West Indies and India at Nagpur in 2007. He was banned from international cricket for two years.
• He received a suspension from bowling in international cricket of illegal bowling action in 2008.
