Mark Nicholas Commentator : The 63-year old former English cricketer is hailed as one of the best voices in cricket. Mark Nicholas was unlucky to not have played international cricket for England, despite achieving so much in the domestic cricket circuit. The 63-year old piled truckload of runs in the first-class cricket for Hampshire.
Before looking at his domestic cricket journey, let’s have a glimpse of his early days. Mark Nicholas was born on 29th September 1957 in Westminister, London. He completed his graduation from Bradfield College. His love for cricket enhanced during his college days, where he learnt the nuances of the game under the guidance of John Harvey.
Cricket Career:
Mark Nicholas boasts of an illustrious domestic cricket career. He represented the English county cricket club Hampshire for 17 long years between 1978 and 1995. Consistent performances for the club meant he was handed over the captaincy in 1985. The English cricketer led Hampshire from 1985 till his retirement.
Mark Nicholas played 377 first-class cricket matches, scoring 18262 runs at an average of 34.39. He hit 36 centuries and 81 half-centuries during this period. Besides, he has also played as many as 359 List-A games for the club, scoring 7334 runs at an average of 27.78.
Despite, scoring a truckload of runs, he never got the opportunity to play for England Cricket Team during his cricket career. However, his love for cricket didn’t subside there only.
From an anchorman to becoming one of the best voices in cricket: After retiring from cricket, Mark Nicholas ventured into the world of cricket commentary. He started as a commentator for Sky Sports. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the anchor-man for Channel 4’s coverage. He soon became a household name in the broadcasting world and the offers started coming from worldwide.
Mark Nicholas commentated for Australia’s Nine Network during the Australian summer cricket season every year until they lost the rights before the 2018/19 season.
Serving as an anchorman and a commentator in 2013-14 Ashes is one of the highlights of his broadcasting career. His proficiency in cricket commentary helped him remain a part of the commentary team in the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies, and the 2011 World Cup in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and 2019 Cricket World Cup in England.
In November 2015, he added another feather to his cap as he published his autobiography, A Beautiful Game, My Love Affair with Cricket.” Nicholas also co-wrote Shane Warner’s autobiography named No Spin.

Mark Nicholas is happily married to his wife Kirsten Northcott. The duo met in the year 2002. At that time, the English cricketer was living together with his then-girlfriend, Sarah Mason.
