KS Bharat’s love affair with Cricket started when he was only 4 years old. Growing up, he would spend most of his time playing cricket on the streets and his balcony.
When most of the children of his age were watching Cricket on Television, Kona Srikar Bharat was taking a ring-side view inside the cricket stadiums. He was only 8 years old at that time. Stationed at cricket grounds as a ball boy, KS Bharat watched numerous glorious moments in Indian Cricket history.
His father too didn’t wait too long to get him enrolled in the cricket training centre. He exhibited impressive performances at the junior level and as a result, broke into the under-13 team at just 10 years of age.
Sitting at the fence as a ball boy at Vishakhapatnam in 2005, KS Bharat saw Mahendra Singh Dhoni producing carnage against Pakistan in the second ODI of the series. His 148-run knock had a huge impact on the then 11-year old KS Bharat and bolstered his ambitions to become a top-level cricketer.
KL Bharat made rapid strides in age-level cricket and at 19 years of age, he made his Ranji debut for Andhra. He played his first Ranji game against Kerala in 2012. Strangely, before he made his debut as a wicket-keeper batsman, Bharat had kept wickets in only 2 games. However, when the opportunity presented, he took it from both hands. Today, the 27-year old is regarded as one of the best wicket-keepers at the moment in Indian Cricket. He has, so far, played 78 first-class matches and 51 List-A games, scoring 4283 and 1351 runs respectively.
- One of the highlights in KS Bharat’s first-class career is his triple century. In the year 2015, he hit a swashbuckling triple-century against Goa. With that, he held the record for being the only wicket-keeper batsman to score a triple century in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
- His best performance with the bat came in the 2014-15 season, where he amassed 758 runs at an average of 54.11. His performances helped him fetch an IPL contract with Delhi Daredevils.
- KS Bharat has been a regular for India A team for quite some time. He has played numerous Tests for India A in the last 5 years and has close to 1000 runs to his name.
- KS Bharat was selected as a cover for Wriddhiman Saha in the pink-ball day-night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata in 2019.
