3 overs, 4 wickets: WATCH Bumrah, Boult breathe fire in opening spell against CSK

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are easily one of the most fascinating rivalries in IPL cricket. After CSK’s domination in the initial years, MI have had their say in the recent years. This year also, story is not so different. After the opening match went in CSK’s favor, Mumbai came storming back yesterday.

Bumrah and Boult run riot!

After MI captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to bowl first, we were in for one of the craziest starts to a T20 match. In the first over, Trent Boult brought one back in to the pads of Ruturaj Gaikwad and he was declared LBW on MI review. In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah bounced out Ambati Rayudu and got Narayan Jagadeesan caught at slips on the very next delivery. MS Dhoni survived the hat-trick ball but mayhem was not there to stop. Faf du Plessis tried to chase a wide one from Trent Boult and ended up edging it straight to the keeper. It was a procession of highest order from CSK as they lost 4 wickets for just 3 runs on the board.

Mumbai pulverize CSK!

After this initial burst from Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, there were no ways for CSK to make a comeback into the match. They continued on to lose wickets and at one stage, they were 43 for 7 before Sam Curran rescued them to triple figures. He made 52 runs from 47 balls as CSK posted 114 runs from their 20 overs. Trent Boult ended up with 4 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar had 2 wickets each.

In reply, Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock enjoyed themselves on Sharjah pitch without any pressure on them. They had a blistering stand of 116 runs and helped MI sail through without losing any wickets. Ishan Kishan was particularly menacing with 68 runs from just 37 balls that also included 5 sixes and 6 fours.
