Hima Das is an Indian sprinter born in Kandhulimari village, near the town of Dhing in the state of Assam. Popularly known as Dhing Express, she was born in a farmer’s family. Hima Das rose to fame after becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.

Hima is the youngest of five children and did her schooling from Dhing Public High School. Initially interested in playing football, she changed her mind to sprint running after a piece of advice from the school physical education teacher as she did not see any prospects for herself in women’s football in India.
