Harry Brook CAREER
Over the first few years of his professional season, Brook had flashed in Yorkshire colours, most notably when he scored his first-ever first-class hundred at Chelmsford in 2018 as the visitors overcame being bowled out for 50 in their first innings to defeat the reigning champions Essex. He started Yorkshire’s 2019 Royal London Cup campaign with a List A hundred and had hints of improved consistency the following summer when he averaged 43.00 in the Bob Willis Trophy.
However, his performance in the Blast – first as a finisher in 2020, then moving up to No. 4 in 2021 – was sufficient for him to be mentioned as a potential England player, and Ben Stokes echoed that opinion after he scored 62 runs off of 31 balls in the Northern Superchargers’ inaugural Hundred game. He is very effective against seamers, hitting down the ground, over midwicket, and over the covers. He has also developed some creative new strokes, like reverse-lapping and scooping in the final overs.
Midway through 2017, Brook, a disciplined young batsman, earned prominence for the first XI thanks to a strong string of performances for the second team, the standout of which was a match-winning century in a one-day final against Middlesex at Headingley. Brook, a product of Sedburgh School and the Burley-in-Wharfedale club, had already travelled to India with the England Under-19s at that time. Later that year, he led the team in 50-over cricket during the team’s rematch against the Indians. At the 2018 U19 World Cup, where he finished as England’s best run-scorer, he took the initiative, at least at first.
Harry Brook IPL
2022 proved to be a breakout year for the young English batter. He was first a part of the title winning England World T20 side. Subsequently, on England’s tour of Pakistan, he finished the Test series as the leading run scorer and the player of the series with 3 hundreds in 3 matches. The icing on the cake, however, was when Harry Brook was sold to the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a jaw-dropping INR 13.25 Crores in the IPL Auction which made him the franchise’s costliest buy ever. The English batter is renowned for his power hitting in the middle order, a skill the SRH would be backing on come IPL 2023.
