Sanjay Bangar Son: Anaya Bangar’s Inspiring Journey
Currently based in Manchester and playing county cricket, Anaya revealed her lifelong passion for the game—a passion nurtured by watching her father represent and coach India. In a moving social media post, she reflected on her journey of self-discovery, highlighting her love for cricket and the immense inspiration she drew from Sanjay Bangar’s commitment to the sport.
“Cricket has always been close to my heart. As a young girl, I was captivated by my dad’s dedication and the pride with which he served our country. That same passion drove me to work hard, dream big, and aspire to play professionally, just like him.”
However, the transition has brought both joy and challenges. As a trans woman undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Anaya has felt significant changes in her body, impacting her strength, muscle memory, and overall athletic performance.
“With each day, the game I’ve loved feels a bit different, and the athletic edge I once had is slipping away,” she explained candidly.
ECB’s New Policy on Transgender Participation
In the broader context, Anaya’s journey coincides with a pivotal moment in cricket policy. Recently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a new regulation effective in 2025, barring transgender women who have undergone male puberty from competing in the top two levels of women’s domestic cricket. The decision has sparked debates about inclusivity and fair play within the sport.
Anaya’s story sheds light on the personal and professional hurdles many transgender athletes face. As she continues her journey both on and off the pitch, her courage and openness bring attention to the complex intersection of identity and sport, inspiring many in the cricket world and beyond.
