One of the most prolific run-scorers in the Australian domestic cricket circuit, Daniel Hughes plays as an opening batsman for New South Wales and Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. Impressive performances in the last three years have helped him capping off Steve Waugh medal twice in last three seasons.
Born on 16th February 1989, Daniel Hughes is counted amongst the best openers in Australian cricket, right now. He made his way into New South Wales team on the back of impressive performances in the Mc Donald’s Sydney Grade Competition and Toyota Futures League. Hughes made his List-A debut on 11th February 2013 for New South Wales against Tasmania. Just over a month later on 14th March 2013, Hughes played his first-class match against South Australia.
Daniel Hughes made heads turn after exhibiting top-notch performances in the 2017-18 JLT One-Day Cup. He finished the tournament as the fourth-highest run-getter. In 6 games, Hughes compiled 379 runs in 6 matches at an astonishing average of 63.16 and a strike rate of 90.45. He notched 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries in the tournament. Impressive performances throughout the season helped him bagging NSW Blues Marsh One-Day Cup Player of the Season award. Besides, he was also awarded with Steve Waugh Medal for the 2017-18 season.
Daniel Hughes has been a prolific run-scorer for New South Wales in the last few years. He made a significant contribution for the side to win its 47th Sheffield Shield tournament in the 2019-20 season. Hughes scored 665 runs in 9 matches at an average of 44.33, including 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries.
Having piled on runs consistently for several years now, Hughes, unfortunately, is yet to receive a National call-up for Australian Cricket Team. While Hughes has scored runs heavily, over the years, he has failed to score big knocks for his side in domestic cricket and this has been one of the biggest reasons for not being considered in the national team.
