A product of the U-19 set-up from 2018, Azmatullah Omarzai has excelled ever since he made his debut for Afghanistan national team in 2021. Omarzai’s performance as a batting all-rounder has earned him plenty of applauds for the classic touch he brings to the field.

Since making his debut in the domestic circuit in 2017, Omarzai has gradually developed from all the age groups. First starting from the U-19, OmarzaiĀ later was transformed to the U-23 set-up and then finally to the senior side.
Career
After impressing in the national team Omarzai was selected for the U-19 team in December 2017. He would then board his flight for the U-19 World Cup with his future senior teammates at senior level. The contingent included Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran,
During the 2018 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand, Omarzai was a hit as he scored 99 runs and scalped five wickets for his side. He even managed to score a fifty for the side in a crucial quarterfinal game against New Zealand to propel his team to a score in excess of 300.
Overall Omarzai’s performance would see his team finish joint-third in the World Cup as they beat Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the process. Omarzai was perfect hit for the side as he did his job with both bat and ball.
In February 2020 Omarzai earned his first call-up to the national side for the T20I series against Ireland. However, he would fail to make the Playing 11 and miss out on his debut. Later due to Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, his debut was further delayed by a year.
Finally in January 2021, Omarzai would become 49th player to be handed his ODI cap and would represent the nation against Ireland. He would score 2 runs and scalp no wickets in the match.
After being named in the national team for the T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2022, Omarzai made his debut and became 44th player to represent the nation in the shortest format. The debut would be one to forget as Afghanistan were bowled out for 94 and lost the match by 61 runs while chasing 156 runs.
