Abhijeet first debuted in the T20 format in a match against Madhya Pradesh in the Zonal T20 League 2017-18. After a season’s wait, he then made his List A debut against Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19.

In the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Abhijeet was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders at a price of 40 lakhs, which had two bids from inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals as well.

Abhijeet had a dismal campaign in his maiden stint in List A cricket. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19, the right-hander got out on 7 in his maiden game and averaged 16.00 across 5 matches to aggregate 80 runs to his name. Nonetheless, come the 2021-22 edition, Abhijeet had taken his cricketing prowess to another level. He marked his first hundred in List A format, scoring a magnificent 104* off 118 deliveries while striking 10 fours and a six. He then added two fifties to his name and finished as the highest run-getter for Rajasthan, amassing 333 runs across 6 matches while averaging 66.60. And it’s this series of herculean performances in the 2021-22 domestic one-dayers that overshadowed his limited-run in the T20s to eventually get him a ticket in the IPL 2022 auction.
