Aaron Finch retirement news is out. He has officially said goodbye to ODI cricket on 9 September 2022. Leading Australia on several fronts, the former skipper of the ODI side had a proud career as he bid his adieu. A calm and composed character on the field, Finch with his left-arm batting would give nightmares to the bowlers and could win matches single-handedly.
Finch during his ODI playing days held the proud accolade of being a World Cup winner when Michael Clarke-led Australia beat New Zealand in the final. Interestingly, it was Finch who would captain the Aussies in the next edition where he led his team to the semifinal before they were eliminated by arch-rivals England. The Aaron Finch-led side was not considered to make the knockouts, but they performed exceptionally well to reach the heights.
With 17 tons to his name, Finch stands fourth in the all-time list of most ODI hundreds for Australia. Only Ricky Ponting, David Warner, and Mark Waugh have scored more tons in the 50-over format for the Aussies. In doing so he ranks above some of the greats of the game like Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Steve Waugh, and others.

Overall in 145 ODI’s for the side, he scored 5401 runs at an average of 39.13, which again is a proud record considering his spell with the team. Along with 17 hundreds, he also scored 30 fifties and scalped four wickets to his name with part-time spin.
The left-hand batter had a quite brief Test career, playing only five times but is considered one of the best limited-overs stars of his generation. His best ODI score of 153 runs came against Pakistan at Sharjah where he remained unbeaten in March of 2019.
For excellence showing in the ODI format in 2020, Finch was awarded Australia’s ODI Player of the Year ahead of Usman Khawaja and David Warner. Finch scored 1141runs in the calendar year with an average of 51.86.
