Alyssa Healy comes from a family of cricket stars. She is the daughter of Greg Healy while Ian Healy is her uncle, both of whom are renowned cricket players from Australia.

She was not interested in playing Cricket until she moved from Queensland to Sydney where she was persuaded by a friend to take up the sport. Her father, Greg Healy was a part of Queensland Squad and her uncle Ian Healy was wicketkeeper in the Australian Cricket team.

She started playing Cricket young at the age of 16 in her school days only. She started in 2006 as the first girl to play among boys in various private schools competition in New South Wales. This incident was opposed by few and an anonymous mail was circulated in the school saying, “Save Barker Cricket Now”.

The Sportmaster of the School supported Alyssa Healy and even criticized the anonymous writer. In 2007 she was selected to play in Under-19 interstate competition for New South Wales Team.

The 2007-08 season was very good for Alyssa Healy. Her team New South Wales reached the final and was awarded the first position in Australian Domestic one-day league. She was selected for the Under-23 Australian team to play a series against senior England and Australian teams. Healy also played two T20 matches became the second top scorer in both matches. She started to play as a full-time Wicket-Keeper after the Women’s World Cup in 2009. Alyssa Healy holds the record for the most number of byes as wicketkeeper in an innings of WT20I. She was selected in Australian Squad to play the Rose Bowl series a Wicket-Keeper in February 2010. She also made her debut in international Cricket with Adelaide Oval and played all the five ODIs. She was also selected to play 2010 World Twenty20 in 2010.

She first came to limelight in 2006 when she became the first girl to play among boys in the private schools’ competition in New South Wales. She kept moving up the age group ranks in her state and made her debut for the senior New South Wales team in the 2007–08 season. She played most of her first two seasons as a specialist batsman and later got the opportunity to take up the glovework on a full-time basis for her state. She recorded her highest score of 89 not out at faster than a run a ball and made the most dismissals of any wicket-keeper in the Women’s National Cricket League during the same season.

Healy got her first international debut in 2010 in Rose Bowl series against New Zealand. She played in the first five ODIs and five T20 internationals but was dropped for the last three ODIs during the New Zealand leg of the series. Healy played in every match of the 2010 World Twenty20 whereby Australia won the tournament marking a remarkable victory.

In December 2018, she was named the T20 Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

As of 21 February 2019, Healey holds the Guinness World Record for the highest catch of a cricket ball at 82.5m. This was set as part of a campaign to mark one year until the start of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
