With IPL announced to begin on 7 April and its auctions scheduled on 27 and 28 Jan, the franchises are brainstorming to make the right strategy. With 578 players to go under the hammer, there are many players have not represented their country on an international level but could make a big splash in the 2018 auctions

Let’s have a look at the uncapped players who might make it big this IPL season.

Prithvi Shaw:

Prithvi Shaw, Mumbai’s 18-year-old run machine punches above his weight.

The youngster made a record 546 at the age of 14 in 2013 in an official inter-school match and had never looked back.

He went on to become the youngest to score a century in Duleep Trophy debut, breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar.

He smashed a century in his Ranji debut; he holds five centuries in the nine first-class matches he’s played so far.

U-19 World Cup Exploits

Shaw, the Indian skipper of the U-19 World Cup team, has scored two half-centuries in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup which includes 94 against Australia and an unbeaten 57  against Papua New Guinea.

With such badges already on his collar, Prithvi is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after uncapped players to watch out for in the upcoming IPL auction.

Jofra Archer:

Jofra Archer, the West-Indies all-rounder, is yet to earn a national cap but has already made the cricket world sit up with his eye-catching bowling and electric fielding in the ongoing Big Bash League.

Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, he surprised us all when he took the coolest catch as if he were picking an apple off the tree.

He is known for making smooth and repeatable action with the ball and is an aggressive run-maker.

Record dismissals in the County Championship 2017

He made his country bow when he recorded 61 dismissals in the County Championship in 2017 at an average of 25.29 making him Sussex’s highest wicket-taker.

From pulling off a one-handed stunner to cleaning up batsman by knocking over their helmets onto the stumps, he exhibits all the qualities of a terrific T-20 player. He has set BBL ablaze, would IPL be next?

D’Arcy Short:

The 27-year-old Australian D’Arcy Short is still uncapped at the international level but is one of the prominent names who would be on the radar for several franchises this year.

With his impeccable form, he has shattered many records in the BBL for Hobart Hurricanes.

Most runs in a single season of the BBL

A player who possesses the ability to clear the rope with ease recently broke Shaun Marsh’s five-year-old record for the most runs in a single season of the BBL.

South-paw has already garnered 504 runs in just nine innings. He can also bowl some handy leg-spins, but with scores of 122, 97 and 96 in the ongoing edition at a strike-rate near 150, Short has emerged as the indisputable star of Twenty-Twenty cricket.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti:

Another prodigy who is stealing headlines for his remarkable performance in the U-19 world cup is Kamlesh Nagar Koti. He made waves against Australia by closely clocking 145 km/hr.

He became the first bowler to claim a list-A hat-trick for Rajasthan last year against Gujarat. Armed with skills of brilliant reverse swing and outswing he has been mentored by Rahul Dravid who has personally monitored Nagarkoti’s growth.

Ganguly spots a future star

Indian former captain Saurav Ganguly has already asked Virat Kohli to keep a close eye on this rising star. Probably franchise of several IPL teams would vouch for him as his raw pace would make him a valuable asset.

Deepak Hooda:

Deepak Hooda was the star attraction of the U-19 World Cup, 2014. Like Shaw, the 22-year old all-rounder registered a ton in his first-class debut for Baroda. Since then he has remained a head turner, his flair continued in Ranji Trophy too. His consistent performance for the Rajasthan Royals compelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to pick him at a price 42 higher than his base price in 2016 auction. With an ability to use long handle and bowl off-spin, Hooda is expected to be in demand once again.
