ICC WCQ’18: Windies qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Scotland knocked out

What’s the story?
The Windies have become the first side in the ICC World Cup qualifiers 2018 to qualify for the marquee event due to be held in England and Wales next year. Windies won their final Super-Six encounter against Scotland by 5 runs on the back of Ductworth Lewis method after the game came to a halt thanks to persistent rain. Scotland, who needed to win this game, were 5-125 in response to Windies total of 198 when rain stopped the proceedings and would now have to bow out of the tournament.

Six teams including the Windies and Scotland are vying for the two elusive spots in the 2019 World Cup. While UAE have been knocked out, the Windies, who had six points prior to the match against Scotland needed a win to all but seal their fate while it was a so-or-die encounter for Scotland who were coming in on the back of a loss against Ireland.
Now with Scotland out from the reckoning Afghanistan, Ireland and hosts Zimbabwe will now fight it out for the one remaining elusive spot in a bid to book their tickets for 2019.
