BCCI has now allowed for an IPL-esque T20 match for Women cricketers. The match will be held before the first playoffs of this year’s IPL on May 22 in Mumbai.
The match is to feature top players from Women’s cricket from across the globe and will see 20 Indian Players and 10 Overseas participating. The match will be aired on Star Sports and the teams will be called IPL XI and BCCI XI. The teams will train at the Cricket Club of India.
The team composition will be exactly similar to that of IPL i.e., 7 Indian Players and 4 Overseas. All players will be paid match fees regardless of it being an Exhibition match and daily allowance and Overseas Player will be provided with Business Class return tickets.
ICC has acceded to the request owing to the demands of a women’s IPL after the success of Indian women Cricketers in last year’s World Cup.
“This is another important step in the promotion of women’s cricket. I am confident that this experiment will lead to a women’s IPL in the near future,” CoA member and former India captain Diana Edulji told PTI.
BCCI has already reached to the Overseas boards to select and send their players for this exhibition game while India will be naming the players later this week.
