The United States of America headed to China for the 2019 FIBA World Cup with an aim to engrave their name in the history books. Having won the last two editions, Gregg Popovich’s men knew they could become the first team to win three consecutive Basketball world cups, a feat named as three-peat.

But the five-time champions will return back to home with the worst ever performance in Basketball’s premier quadrennial event. The previous worst display for the USA team came in the 2006 edition when they managed a 6th place finish.

Poland meanwhile have done relatively well for a team playing in its first FIBA World Cup since 1967.

Poland won their group with a 100% record ahead of Venezuela, China, and Ivory Coast and extended their winning run to four games after beating Russia 79-74 in the first game of the second round.

BUt Mike Taylor’s men failed to win their next three games, losing against Argentina, Spain and the Czech republic.

• While Marcus Smart has been sent home due to a muscle injury and the 25-year-old Boston Celtics’ guard will be missing the final game.
