Kawhi Leonard played a crucial role for Gregg Popovich’s title-winning San Antonio Spurs, winning the NBA finals MVP in the process. No mean feat by any stretch of the imagination.

But the current version of Kawhi is unrealistically incredible. It warrants even our own perception about him that perhaps he is a player who can be as good as he wants. That version has been in plain sight in the 2019 playoffs, with every game witnessing his brilliance.

The fourth game, where Raptors needed him, and just like great players, he came alive. The former Spurs dropped a game-high 39 points and added 14 defensive rebounds as well.

But the mere numbers can’t justify his impact on the game. He is not only a brilliant offensive player, but his contribution in defense is unparalleled.

Raptors won Game-4 101-96 at Wells Fargo Center and leveled the series at 2 games apiece.

Toronto got help from other sources though. One crucial factor was Joel Embiid’s health. The Sixers’ MVP candidate played through pain and was uncharacteristically average and poor in the game.

If Embiid fails to regain the fitness or is forced to play through the pain, Sixers may say goodbye to the series considering how Kawhi is playing.

Kawhi Leonard – Kawhi is in brilliant form in the playoffs this season, averaging 32.3 points per game and 7 rebounds while shooting 58 percent. These are incredible numbers and the achievement looks even more special if you consider that only Karim Abdul-Jabbar had managed to rack up those numbers in a full post-season.

He will be a free agent this summer and the Raptors fans can’t even fathom about the possibility of him leaving the franchise. For he is one of a kind.

Pascal Siakam – Leonard’s side-kick and there are many in Raptors, but Pascal Siakam is more consistent of the lot. He is putting up decent numbers with 21.3 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds and 1 steal per game. 

Philadelphia 76ers:

Joel Embiid – For the second time in this series, he was under the weather. But this time his healthy thwarted him as he was suffering from an illness. He could manage only 11 points in the match, and to make it worse, Kawh Leonard won his personal battle with him.
Not many players can do that, and part of that because of his fitness issues. A healthy Embiid is one of the top-five players in the NBA.

In the postseason, the 25-year-old is averaging 21.4 points per game.

Jimmy Butler – He was Sixers’ only proactive star on the night racking up 29 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. He dominated the perimeter for the most part of the game and punched his way to the foul line.
