Los Angeles Clippers will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host a talented Philadelphia 76ers team at Staples Center, in Los Angeles, on Wednesday morning (IST).

LaMarcus Aldridge dropped his season-best numbers as San Antonio Spurs beat Los Angeles Clippers 111-122 at Staples Center. The 33-year-old former Portland Trail Blazers star scored a game-high 38 points in the match.

It was Clippers’ sixth loss in the last 10 matches and their fifth at home heading into this match. This was also their 2nd straight loss against San Antonio Spurs with their last defeat coming on December 13, an 87-125 loss on the road.

The game was tied at 56 points each after the first half and both the team had the equal chances of winning the match.

However, a monster third quarter from the visitors left the hosts ruing for a golden opportunity as spurs dropped 39 points against Clippers’ meagre 19 points in reply. DeRozan and Aldridge scored a combined 16 points while Patty Mills buried two consecutive three-pointers to extend his Spurs’ lead to 91-68 with less than three minutes to go into the fourth quarter. The visitors never left after the 3rd quarter.

Clippers tried to make a comeback and cut down the deficit as they won the fourth quarter 36-27. But the damage was already done in the first three quarters.

Philadelphia 76ers:
The Sixers lost their last game as well which was their fifth in the last 10 matches. The latest one was against Portland Trail Blazers which they lost by a huge 34 points and couldn’t even score past 100 points. This was just the third such instance this season where Philadelphia couldn’t score in the three digits.

Not too much should be looked into this performance as Sixers were shorthanded. Joel Embiid missed the match with a knee injury. It was a big setback as Embiid is 76ers’ best player this season.

Sixers are still fourth in the table in the Eastern Conference, two games above fifth-placed Boston Celtics heading into their next match.

Tobias Harris – The 26-year-old can turn the game on its head on any given day and remains the only player to average in the 20s for Clippers this season. Should be in your NBA fantasy team.
Danilo Gallinari – He is a vital cog in Clippers’ wheel. A seasoned player now and his experience could be the key as Los Angeles target a playoff position this season. Also, Lou Williams is another player who normally features from the bench but makes a good contribution.

Philadelphia 76ers:
Joel Embiid – Though he is a doubt for this match, we have selected him in our special players’ segment. He is too good a talent and if he plays, Sixers will be a different animal. The 24-year-old is racking up 26.5 points per game and he is the only player to average in the 20s for Sixers this season.
Jimmy Butler – The mid-season recruit has made the team more formidable and he could be the last piece of the jigsaw. At the moment, the former Minnesota Timberwolves man is dropping points at 18.1 per game.
