GSW vs POR DREAM11 MATCH PREVIEW:

The 2nd game of the doubleheader will see Portland Trail Blazers playing host to the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors at Moda Center, in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday morning (IST).

Portland Trail Blazers:
The monkey is off the back now and Portland Trail Blazers will be going into their next encounter feeling confident and with high hopes of winning the two-game series 2-0 against the NBA defending champions.

Not since Golden State Warriors started their era of utter dominance in 2014-15 that the Blazers came away from Oakland with a win. In total, they had played 12 games before the last trip and ended up losing all those games. That’s a 12-game barren run against the Dubs in away games which was the biggest such streak for Blazers against any team in NBA.

Despite the home support and all the big guns starting the match, Portland had the last laugh and won the game 110-109 in the overtime. Damian Lillard showed why he is the All-Star point guard, produced a moment of brilliance which could yet define the Portland season. After all, it brought them an away win against Warriors and who knows if both the teams meet in the playoffs and Blazers may, just maybe, do the unthinkable. The belief is all that matters.

The game was heading for a home win as the scoreline read 109-107 in favour of the home team. But Lillard had the ball in his hand, dribbled past hurdles, jumped the sent the ball over the head of two Warriors; defenders and towards the hoop from beyond the arc. It was not a Hollywood movie, so there was no technology to slow the time, and everything happened in a jiffy. The ball met its destiny and rolled down into the rim and came the three-pointer which shifted the game towards visitors at 109-110.

That was not all. There was more drama as Kevin Durant could have won the match as he released the ball in time and before the buzzer blew, but the ball missed its target.

Portland remained 5th in the western conference table with a 20-15 record, while Warriors (23-13) slipped down to 3rd after Oklahoma City Thunder won against Phoenix Suns.

Golden State Warriors:

Steve Kerr’s men are still 3rd in the Western Conference. They are just two wins away from Denver Nuggets who are sitting at the top. And considering that we haven’t even seen the halfway stage of the regular season, things will definitely change over the course of the whole season.

However, there is something uncanny about Golden State Warriors this season. they can still end up topping the conference but the way they are playing up until now, there are apparently a lot of chinks in their armour than it was at any time since 2014-15.

In their last match which they lost 109-110 against Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle Arena, they made so many mistakes, the play was so head-scratching and awful at times that nobody would believe that it was the defending champions in action.

There were many instances where Draymond Green fumbled the ball, and even his positioning was not up to the mark. Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson all struggled at times both inside the paint and beyond the arc. However, Curry and Durant had a good game as the former scored a game-high 29 points while the former had a triple-double as he dropped 26 points, 11 assists and 14 rebounds in the match.

Regular Season Record-
Portland Trail Blazers: W-23, L-13
Golden State Warriors: W-20, L-15

Players to watch out for:
Portland Trail Blazers:

Damian Lillard – The 28-year-old remains Portland Trail Blazers’ best player on any given day. He is scoring points at an incredible rate, averaging 26.9 points per game. The Oakland born point guard too good a talent and deadly weapons in his armoury to hurt the opponents.
CJ McCollum – Has the temperament to produce absolute incredible numbers on a day and can go under the radar as well. But the 27-year-old is Portland’s second best player in every regard, dropping points at 20.5 per game.

Golden State Warriors:
Kevin Durant – The two-time NBA MVP is racking up MVP calibre numbers as he is scoring at 28.8 points per game this season. He is an indispensable part of the team. When Warriors lost four games on the bounce, it was Durant who dug his team out of the hole. The former Oklahoma City Thunder can change the face of the game on his own.
Stephen Curry – Superstar and Warriors’ own son, Stephen Curry is the face of Golden State Warriors. He is one of those talents who ticks all the boxes. Whether it’s defending, passing or performing some magic when the ball is in his hands, he can do everything one may imagine on the Basketball court. For the season, his average stands at 28.6 points per game.
