Low-scoring thrills

Rebounding battles are central to any NBA affair but when it is a low-scoring one, their importance only increases. This is why the Jazz was able to hold out because Rudy Gobert led the league in rebounds per game and ensured that the missed shots are captured to limit Dallas’ opportunities. With Gobert boxing out, Bogdanovic, Conley, O’Neale, and Mitchell also bagged multiple rebounds while Whiteside kept the theme ticking off the bench.

Jalen Brunson had to take some tough shots in the absence of Luka Doncic and the physical Jazz forced a ton of misses as the Guard shot below 40%. Dinwiddie did have a strong driven game and ended up with 10 made free throws and if Doncic doesn’t play here, these two will have to shoot better than 40%. With the lack of offensive rebounding, they will need to be efficient.

Donovan Mitchell had a 30+ points night but he shot around 33% and was forcing the matters at the time. The Jazz would have lost if Bojan Bogdanovic didn’t score 26 points at a more than respectable shooting percentage while Gobert concentrated his energy more on the defensive end. Mike Conley did well at the offensive end.

The Forward duo of Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock combined for 29 points and they did their parts well. If they take this momentum into the second game of the series, the Mavericks may be able to close out the Jazz. However, it will be up to Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell to keep Gobert off the boards and try to produce second-chance points. The Mavericks desperately miss Luka Doncic.

Fantasy scenarios

Donovan Mitchell showed his fantasy value as he led all the scorers, bagged rebounds, and also dished a decent amount of assists. If Doncic doesn’t play, he will be expected to finish as the best scorer again. Gobert’s rebounding work clearly makes him a favorable pick and although he didn’t score a ton, his shot-blocking helps fill the fantasy stats. He can up his offensive game here and bring further value. Bojan Bogdanovic again showed he is a reliable Fantasy pick and made his mark. Clarkson is rather a risky pick considering he just played 19 minutes in the last game.

From the Mavs’ side, both Brunson and Dinwiddie emerged as reliable pick-ups, scoring a ton of points whereas Dinwiddie also grabbed a bunch of assists. On the other hand, Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock can act as brilliant filler players and the same goes for Maxi Kleber who was strong on the rebounding end. If Doncic doesn’t play, then it must have one among Brunson or Dinwiddie in the fantasy scenarios.
