Chennai Super Kings have been synonymous with consistency from the inception of the IPL. The IPL began in 2008 and in the first season itself, the Chennai team started to make its presence felt. They reached the final in the first season to be toppled by the Rajasthan Royals team. This did not change the fact that they had built a squad that can be called one of the most consistent squads of all time. Till the 2020 season, they had reached the qualifiers stages of every single competition they had played in. One of the hallmarks of this team was the kind of backing they gave to their squad. The core of the squad always stayed the same and there were some changes which they played with here and there. They retained as many players as they could and tried to buy most of their players back. This always gave them a settled squad and a core of players who knew their roles well under the leadership of one of the best captains the game has seen in the form of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This was the case until the last season when in 2020 for the first time they failed to qualify for the qualifier stages. They finished bottom of the pile and they knew that it was time for a change.
About Chennai Super Kings 2021 Squad
The CSK 2021 squad saw a marked difference from their regular approach to the auction. They wee proactive in releasing a few of the players who were now surplus to requirement and brought in some young blood which they thought would enthuse some much needed sense of urgency to a team which has often been called the Dad’s army. They still maintained their core but what they have changed drastically is an approach with the entry of the likes of Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. They have also invested more on the likes of Rituraj Gaekwad who has become a key player for them in the csk team 2021

CSK has been dealt with a bit of a jolt this time around as the second phase of IPL has been shifted to the UAE. They were doing well in the first half of the IPL and have won 5 out of their 7 games in the IPL but their plans would have to change now with the IPL shifted to UAE. UAE is where they have struggled off late. A testament to that would be what happened to them in the previous campaign where they finished last. This year the csk squad 2021 features players who were retained and the ones who were brought in the auction. The final csk team 2021 players list is as follows.
CSK released players 2021
The Chennai Super Kings bunch has usually been one which has backed its players through thick and thin but there are players which they felt needed to laid off in order to build a new squad. The following players were released by the team and not included in the ipl 2021 csk team players list.
Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh , Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla and Monu Singh
Shane Watson was a forced release as he had retired from the game and that has opened the doors for Rituraj Gaekwad who has since featured heavily in the overall scheme of things since then. Murali Vijay is well past his prime and is not the force in international and domestic cricket that he used to be once. Same goes for Harbhajan who is still playing cricket but is certainly not the player who he once was in his prime. Still has a lot to offer though for the Kolkata Knight Riders which is his current franchise. Kedar Jadhav has seen a consistent dip in form with the international and domestic team off late. He did not deliver for CSK apart from a couple of games. Piyush Chawla and Monu Singh too were bowlers who have not done well for the franchise too and were given a chance to prove their worth for some other franchise
CSK retained players 2021
Keeping up to their philosophy of keeping the core constant, they retained their major players who had performed well for them so far. Most of these players are young and still have a lot to offer for them. Some players like Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and Imran Tahir might not be in their prime but still can be of use as first team players. The full list of retained players is as follows.
MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Imran Tahir, R. Sai Kishore, Deepak Chahar, Lungi Ngidi.Ambati Rayudu Sam Curran, Ravi Jadeja N Jagadeesan, Faf Du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Josh Hazlewood, Shardul Thakur, Karn Sharma and KM Asif
Josh Hazlewood opted out of the IPL. Faf Du Plessis has been one of the more consistent players for them while Shardul Thakur is a utility player who has come in handy as one of the chennai super kings players 2021
Chennai super kings 2021 captain
CSK has always had only one leader and that has been the one and only MS Dhoni. The man who has taken this franchise to 3 titles and made it one of the most successful franchises in the history of the IPL. He is the captain of the franchise in this year of the IPL too. He is ageing and may not be at his best when it comes to his batting but as a captain there is no changing his cool demeanour and his masterstrokes which can be game changing at different points of time. Csk ipl team 2021 look up to their influential leader once again to deliver the goods
