Shashi Tharoor introduces new bill to regulate gaming in India
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor introduced a bill in the parliament to regulate gaming in India. The Sports (Online Gaming & Prevention of Fraud) Bill, 2018 was introduced in Lok Sabha on December 28, 2018 which aims to establish an effective regime for maintaining the integrity of online sports gaming.
The bill mainly deals with two issues, i.e., Penalising match-fixing and manipulating international and domestic games and to create an over -arching national regulatory and licensing framework for permitting sports gaming which is subject to several safeguards and guidelines.
The Bill has been divided into two parts where while the first part of the bill deals with inclusion of offence called ‘sports fraud’, the second part of the bill deals with the the bill deals with establishment of a seven member national-level Online Sports Gaming in India.
