Would Steve Smith play in the IPL?
For controversy-struck Steve Smith, the coming week could define his career.
With Smith’s reputation already in tatters, BCCI and IPL are yet to decide on his future in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
What could be in store for Smith?
In the wake of the ball-tampering controversy laid on Rajasthan Royals skipper Steven Smith, ICC has slapped him with a fine of 100 percent match fee and a one-match suspension.
Cricket Australia is yet to give its verdict, but reportedly the offenders could face some severe punishments.
With Australia skipper mired in controversy, Rajasthan Royals could remove Steve Smith from the role of skipper and hand over the captaincy to Ajinkya Rahane.
Earlier, before the ICC announced the punishment for Smith, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said that they would wait for the official sanction. “We will only start after ICC decides the magnitude of the sanction. Smith is an important player for the Rajasthan Royals and their skipper,” Shukla told in an interview.
Very disappointed with the pictures I saw on our coverage here in Cape Town. If proven the alleged ball tampering is what we all think it is – then I hope Steve Smith (Captain) & Darren Lehmann (Coach) do the press conference to clean this mess up !
