AB de Villiers further enhanced his reputation as a ‘genius’ as he smashed another T20 fifty to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first win of IPL 2018. The South African struck 57 off 40 balls with the help of four big sixes and put on a 54-run partnership with his fellow countryman de Kock to setup the chase.
Chasing 156 to win, RCB got off to a poor start losing McCullum for 0 on the second ball of the innings. Quinton de Kock scored a valuable 45 off 34 at the start, while Mandeep chipped in an important 22 runs lower down the order. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for KXIP, bagging 2 wickets for 30 runs.
Earlier, put in to bat first by the home team, Kings XI Punjab managed to get 155 runs on the board in a stop-start batting effort. Umesh Yadav ran through KXIP top order, claiming three wickets – Agarwal, Finch and Yuvraj – in a single over to take the sting out of KXIP’s batting.
In-form KL Rahul made quickfire 47 runs at the top, while captain Ravi Ashwin chipped in with a valuable 33 lower down the order to push the score past 150. Washington Sundar and Khejroliya picked 2 wickets each for RCB.
