Chandigarh – Chris Gayle hit record 21st hundred of his T20 career and first of this IPL edition to stop Sunrisers Hyderabad’s winning run. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kings XI made a cautious start against one of the best bowling attacks in the competition.
However, the West Indian swashbuckler did not take much time to get going. The left-hander did not spare any SRH bowler in his innings of 104 (not out) off 63 ball – studded with 11 massive sixes. Gayle particularly targeted Rashid Khan – taking 8 sixes of him. Gayle completed his sixth IPL ton in 19th over and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings.
Chasing 194, SRH did not get off to the best of starts with Shikhar Dhawan retiring hurt after getting hit on the elbow and soon after lost Saha. The innings never got any momentum and the asking rate kept getting farther.
Williamson, Pandey and Shakib did contribute with the bat but was not enough in the end as the visitors fell short by 15 runs. Andrew Tye was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings XI, accounting 2 wickets for 23 runs.
