Gautam Gambhir decided to step down as the captain of Delhi Daredevils and now he has also decided to forego his entire salary while taking responsibility for the team’s disappointing run in the Indian Premier League.
It is possibly the first time in the history of the IPL that a captain has decided not to take any salary because of non-performance.
Gambhir called an emergency press conference on Wednesday and announced his decision to step down from his leadership role and now he has decided to play the rest of the tournament without any fees.
“Gautam Gambhir has decided not to take any salary from the franchise for the season. He will be playing remaining part of IPL for the Delhi Daredevils for free,” a source suggested.

“Gautam is someone who has always puts pride above everything else. He has always been a proud performer. He has made personal call and has decided not to take any money.” the source added.
While he would still be playing this season as a player, he would be taking a call on his future only after the tournament gets over.
“I don’t know, it’s too early for me to decide on that. I will sit down and decide. I need to think where my game is going and where am I going as an individual,” Gambhir said during the press conference.
