Premier League club Liverpool signed Alisson Becker from AS Roma on Wednesday. The transfer was worth $84.6 Million and this made Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football.
Alisson became the most sought-after goalkeeper in the European market after a series of commendable performances in the UEFA Champions League. He helped his former side to reach the semi-final of the competition.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s goalkeeping problem woes have been under the limelight for a while. The infamous Karius gaffe against Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League was the talking point of the entire footballing community for days.
Manager Jurgen Klopp showed faith in his keeper after that performance as well but knew deep down an upgrade was required if he wants to challenge for the Premier League title.
“At one point in the last few weeks, it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers. The owners were quite excited, so we did it,” the Liverpool manager said.

Brazilian Alisson has been knocking on the door of the elite goalkeeping fraternity, and this move justifies how far along he has come in his career.
The new Liverpool goalkeeper said it was a dream come true for him to play for the club, and his former teammate at Roma, Mohammed Salah, sent him messages before he had officially been announced.
“Yesterday, he sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’ As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!’ I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him again. As well as being a great player, he is a huge character and a great person – which is the most important thing,” the South American said.
This is the fourth major signing the English club has done to strengthen themselves. Klopp has been given the money to sharpen his team and to stabilise the weaknesses as well. From what it appears on paper, he has made the correct signings to mount a serious title charge in the upcoming Premier League season.
