Leicester City are set to host beleaguered Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday, hoping to keep the good run going at King Power Stadium.
In fact, the Foxes are being seen as an odds-on favorite to win this game, with any other result than all the three points for the hosts, a near disaster. If the hosts win, they will climb back to the 3rd place on the table.
However, Leicester could be without their most-prized asset James Maddison. The 21-year-old star took a knock to his ankle late in the game against Tottenham Hotspur, where his low shot from outside the box proved to be the winner.
Here is what Rodgers said about Maddison’s situation, “We’ll see over the next couple of days he’s a doubt, he’s putting some weight on his ankle. “We’ll give him every chance.”
But if he is not available, who could replace him in the playing 11?
Dennis Praet seems to be the overwhelming favorite to replace the former Norwich City man in Rodgers’ playing 11. The 25-year-old Belgian joined Leicester this summer on a five-year deal, for a reported fee of €20 million.
Though the former Sampdoria man has found the game-time hard to come by, his impressive display against Luton Town in Carabao Cup could force Rodgers to name him in the midfield.
While Marc Albrighton and Hamza Choudhury are options as well. But the involvement of either of them will require Rodgers to tweak his system a little bit. For both, the players are a tad less attack-minded than Maddison.
