Two-time ISL winner Atletico de Kolkata is facing a delay in getting the VISA for Spain, and their five players are forced to stay back in Kolkata, India. The ISL giants have planned a preseason training camp for three and a half week, and the whole team has reached La Roda, Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, but Winger Jayesh Rane and the new signing Ricky Lallawmawma, H. Lalmuankima and Ankit Mukherjee and Cavin Lobo have failed to get their Schengen VISA for Spain on time.
Not only five footballers of the Kolkata side, but some of the members of the support staff also failed to get the VISA on time, and they were unable to board the flight. “There have been a delay in getting the VISA, but we are hopeful that we will get it soon and then will link up with the squad in Spain soon.” said the source close to the ATK.
Team’s head coach Steve Coppell will join the team directly as he will arrive from the UK and their new signings Manuel Lanzarote and Kalu Uche were present at the venue before the Indian contingent could reach the destination.
Now, ATK will begin their preseason camp with 13 players, and the remaining ones will join the field soon. There is another player, Hitesh Sharma; he will not be part of the training as he is on his national duty of representing the Under-23 team in 2018 SAFF Championship.
The Co-owned side of the former world cup winning captain Sourav Ganguly will announce their preseason schedule after returning from Spain and ISL’s new season will start from 29 September 2018. The league has seen four successful seasons in which Atletico de Kolkata and Chennaiyin FC have been crowned twice, so let’s see who will make it thrice or a new champion will arrive.
