For the first time in history of Ballon d’Or
A female soccer player Ada Hegerberg, 23, was honoured with the Ballon d’Or, but that night turned out to be the outrage for the host of the evening.
Martin Solveig, the male presenter of the evening, asked a nasty thing to the Norwegian Woman footballer and the first Woman soccer player of the year Ada. He asked the lady to “Twerk” at the stage after awarding her the honour.
This incident gave fire to the people who are fighting against Sexism in the sports industry. Tennis player Andy Murray came in support of Ada and lashed out at Martin’s behaviour on Instagram.
Andy Murray quoted….
“This is another example of the ridiculous sexism that still exists in sport. Why do women have to put up with that s**t? What did they ask Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric? I did imagine something to do with the game of football.”
“And to everyone who thinks people are over-reacting and it was just a joke. No, it wasn’t. I have been involved in the sport my whole life, and the level of sexism is unreal.”

After the outrage faced by Martin on social media, he immediately bounced back and issued an apology publicly to Ada about what he asked her to do on the stage.
“I am a bit amazed as to what I am reading on the internet. I, of course, didn’t want to offend anyone”, said in a video message shared by Martin.
“This comes from a distortion of my language level and my culture level, which is not obviously enough because I didn’t mean to offend anyone and didn’t know this could be seen as such an offence.”
What Ada said regarding the incident?
Later on, Ada responded in a press conference about the whole incident that she did not take it badly at all, she is not offended. Ada told the reporters that he could have asked something different from her.
It was a night to remember for the soccer fans but a night to forget for Martin for sure.
