After Denmark claiming their second victory of the game with a Christian Eriksen goal, France also went on to follow them in the Round of 16 after handing Peru their second defeat of the tournament and ending their World Cup run. France may not have started all glorious as everyone thought they would but they are keeping the points and that’s the most important thing. This is also by far France’s great start to their World Cup quest as previously five out of seven occassions France failed to win a match in major tournaments.
As the game started, Peru looked more convinced to get at least one point out of this game if they couldn’t get all the three points. With attacks building from both flanks Peru was getting dangerous and to bottle their attack the french got a but physical and in the 16th minute Blaise Matuidi got booked for his foul on Advincula. Peru had it control till the 30th minute but France was finally getting into the game realising that it might get too late for them if they don’t act at that moment. in the 34th minute, France got their break as Girould from a brilliant Griezmann pass got into the box and struck the ball hard which took a deflection from Peru defender Ramos and beat Gallese only to end up Kylian Mbappe’s foot which he tapped in without much hassle and become the youngest France player to score a goal in the world cup.
With that goal, Peru got demoralized but they put everything they have got on the ground for they weren’t accepting defeat this easily. However, the second half started with Peru bringing in Jefferson Farfan to the mix substituting Yoshimar Yotun and Anderson Santamaria in Alberto Junior Rodriguez. Peru took 24 shots without scoring a goal in these two matches following after Morocco (28) and Germany (26) who have also been goal less in this tournament so far.
In the 75th minute Kylian Mbappe was replaced Ousmane Dembele and in the 80th minute Antoine Griezmann by Nabil Fekir knowing that France had total control of the game. The game ended as Les Bleus secured another three points of the game.
