Story before the match
Russia and Uruguay have met eight times in world cup finals where Russia has won six games. Uruguay’s last win came up in 1970 World cup Finals against Russia. If we talk about Russia, then they have lost each of their previous four meetings with the South American nation in world cup finals.
First half: Uruguay started attacking from the very first minute
Suarez planted the victory of Uruguay at the 10th minute of the action when he sweetly took the free kick to the bottom right corner of the goal post. Just beyond the reach of the goalkeeper, here came the first blow of the vessel, that their victory is ready to come. After scoring this goal for Uruguay, Suarez has now scored seven goals (only less than Oscar Miguez) in the World Cup tournament in Uruguay. Later on, the game had started to take turns where Russians were trying to dominate the action, but they ended up converting their defence into an own goal. Midfielder Denis Cheryshev wanted to save it, but the ball got deflected which became unstoppable for goalkeeper Akinfeev. Now the score-line was 2-0, after 1966 World cup match against France, it was the first time when Uruguay scored two goals in the first half of the game.
Second half: No hopes for Russia left in this game
Russia started the second half with a move to dominate the game once again, they replaced Miranchuk with Smolov, but it didn’t help them much. Both the teams invested their remaining 45 minutes in making the moves, but both of them weren’t able to shoot even one shot on target. The third goal of Uruguay came in the 90th minute of the game. Finally, Cavani got it! as Godin got a thumping header towards the goal, but Akinfeev wasn’t able to grasp it, and Cavani thumped the ball into the net.
