Uruguay vs France , Match report
After 56 games been played in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, we were down to the last eight teams. Every single one of them had worked tirelessly to be in this spot, and all was left to play for. In the first Quarter-Final, we saw the matchup of France vs Uruguay.
These two teams Uruguay vs France were one of the better teams in the tournament. The game also started off with the same intent as well.
Even though Uruguay faced a blow of missing out on their star-striker Edinson Cavani, it was them who attacked the French defence in the initial exchanges. It almost was a ploy to let their opponents know that they won’t be intimidated, and will match them stride for stride. A typical mentality of their brilliant coach Oscar Tabarez.
France took some time to settle in the game but soon started to mount their own attacks. Minutes piled up and the swashbuckling football between the two teams only intensified. If the South Americans got close to scoring, they were immediately countered by their French competitors who were on the verge of open the scoring. It was a sitting on the edge encounter, with the feeling that something extravagant is going to happen soon.
In the 39th minute, Antoine Griezmann chipped a free-kick into the Uruguayan box, in hopes somebody would charge towards it. Raphael Varane leapt the highest and headed the ball home to take the lead for his side at a crucial juncture of the match.
Uruguay responded immediately and extracted one of the best saves from the French captain Hugo Lloris in the 43rd minute who saved a sure goal from Martin Caceres. Even though they were the better side, they went into the halftime being a goal-down.
Well that was the one side of the game, on the other half Uruguay started continuous attack but they ended up getting one against them. French talismanic superstar Antoine Griezmann scored a beauty at the 61th minute of the game and it eventually became the reason of Uruguay’s exit from the tournament. In the end the scoreline was read on 0-2 in favor of France and they are going to the Semi-final to meet the winner of Belgium vs Brazil.
