It has been a very strange season for Valencia. At one point they were closer to the relegation zone than their preferred target of the Champions League places. No wonder manager Marcelino was coming under a huge pressure to hold on to his job.

It’s not that the Los Ches were losing games after games. In fact, Valencia have suffered just four defeats this season, the joint-second fewest in La Liga.

The reason they dropped so many points is the draws. Indeed, 16 of their 29 matches have seen teams sharing points with them.

But Valencia are hitting the form at the right time and come into this match on a 10-game unbeaten streak. More importantly, Marcelino’s team have won five times in that period.

Strange is this season for one more reason is that despite Valenica struggling for form earlier in the season they are just 3 points adrift of the Champions Legaue places.

Considering the form Los Ches are in at the moment, you wouldn’t bet against them. In fact, a win in this match will take into the top-4 at the expense of 4th placed Getafe.

The hosts will definitely head into this game high on confidence after winning 0-1 against Sevilla last time around.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, ensured three straight wins in Zinedine Zidane’s second coming at Santiago Bernabeu. But it was anything but a straight forward win over the rock-bottom Huesca.

Los Blancos fell behind just three games into the game to Cucho Hernandez’s well-timed shot who was given an acre of space inside the penalty area. Isco leveled the score just 20 minutes later, while Dani Ceballos put the team ahead at the hour mark.

Huesca always looked threatening on the long balls and they scored the leveler through one such situation in the 74th minute through Xabier Etxeita’s header. But home team continued to pour ahead and took the lead again through Karim Benzema’s perfect finesse shot.

With the win, Madrid maintained their grip on the 3rd place, sitting just two points behind 2nd placed Atletico Madrid.

Though the La Liga title is a long shot and is almost out of reach as Barcelona sit 12 points ahead at the top, finishing second in the table is a good chance. If Madrid achieves that, it would be good progress considering how the season has panned out for the reigning European champions.
