Santiago Solari was always running into a wall ever since he was appointed the manager of Real Madrid. He had a big job to mend a sinking ship which had just lost its biggest star in the summer. However, Julen Lopetegui’s bad start to the season meant he had a little bit of room to make mistakes and learn from them.

He did actually, as after some initial hiccups Real Madrid seemed to get back on track, winning games and reducing the gap on leaders Barcelona to just six points. Madrid also made into the knockout rounds of Champions League where they were handed a benign-looking tie against Dutch giants Ajax.

But the problems started to surface yet again when Madrid lost 1-2 at home against Girona, a historical result considering it was visitors’ first win at Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid lost three more games in the space of 10 days, two against Barcelona in Copa del Rey and La Liga, and another one in the Champions League at the hands of Ajax.

For whatever reasons Madrid were struggling, it’s a fact that Santiago Solari had his chance which he failed to grab. Now the club is in the hands of Zinedine Zidane, who has been given a three-year contract and big transfer chest to rebuild the squad in the summer.

For Zidane, the target must be to bring some element of consistency to the results and finish as high in the table as possible.

Celta Vigo could show some sympathy towards Real Madrid. After all, they are struggling gravely to meet their primary targets. And they have treaded on the same path to some degrees, sacking a manager and bringing in another man to save the season.

But the move hasn’t worked out yet as Celta’s situation is worsening with each passing week. From a team capable of breaking into the top-six to an outfit reeling on the fringes of relegation, it’s been a journey down South for Cleta this season.

Celta have won just one league game since December 15th, it’s a stretch of 12 games. No wonder the Celticos are have slipped into the bottom three. Manager Fran Escribá is running out of time to save the Sky Blues from the obscurity of the drop, and what better to show some intent than at Santiago Bernabeu.
