For the 2nd season in a row, Bengaluru FC topped the regular season table, and for the 2nd time, they could be on the verge of ending the journey without getting their hands on the trophy.

But they are on the periphery, not out. It’s just one-half, and there is a lot of football to be played. And considering the Blues are at home, you can just expect Sunil Chhetri and Co to step up on the gas.

Talking about the first leg, the Highlanders were relentless in the first half an hour. Winger Redeem Tlang deservedly put his team ahead in the 20th minute, cutting in from the right-flank to finish a perfect finesse shot beyond the helpless Gurpreet Sandhu.

NorthEast looked the most likely team to score the 2nd. Bartholomew Ogbeche’s presence was giving the opponents all sorts of the problems when he was coming deep into the field, linking up the play with the midfield. One such occasion saw Federico Gallego attempting the shot from the edge of the box, which feathered the post.

However, a moment which could turn the game on its head was Bartholomew Ogbeche’s injury. Highlanders’ 12-goal hit-man hobbled off in the first half injury time due to an injury. No wonder, in his absence, Bengaluru grew into the game in the 2nd half.

Carles Cuadrat made some tactical changes as well, restoring Dimas Delgado, who was playing just behind Miku in the first half, to the midfield, while Albert Serrán was subbed off for Xisco Hernandez.

The move worked as the visitors started to dominate the midfield. They leveled the score in the 82nd minute after Chhetri’s brilliant work inside the left-side of the penalty box saw him passing the ball to the onrushing XIsco, who tapped-in the all-important away goal.

It seemed as if the scoreline would remain the same had it not for some poor defending from Harmanjot Khabra. The 30-year-old Indian defender wrestled Juan Mascia to the ground in front of the referee, resulting in a penalty.

Juan Cruz Mascia, who replaced Ogbeche, converted and gave his side a lead to fight for in the 2nd leg. The match is not finished by any means as Bengaluru had an away goal.

NEUFC vs BFC Dream11 FANTASY TEAM:

INDIA FANTASY PREDICTION:

If NorthEast United approach the game as they did in the first half, they will most probably go through to the final. However, at home the Blues will be a different animal. Sunil Chhetri and Miku may not be consistent and in the best of the form, but they have the talent to produce a moment of absolute magic.
The visitors are depleted and are expected to be without two of their most influential players for the 2nd leg.
A win for the hosts is our call.
