A titanic Premier League clash is going to be held at the City of Manchester Stadium (Etihad Stadium) as the reigning champions Manchester City aim to keep Liverpool at a bridgeable distance when they host Reds in the league match, in Manchester, on Thursday night (IST).

Manchester City:
Earlier in the season there was a talk of a potential classic premier league match when Liverpool hosted Manchester City at Anfield. There was no exaggeration in that notion considering what normally happens whenever Cityzens travel to Merseyside to face the Reds.

At the moment, City are seven points adrift of Reds at the top of the table. A loss would leave them 10 points off the pace and it would be too much a gap to bridge considering how Reds have been playing.

The defending champions’ three defeats in a four game period was down to many things. The luck played a part, injuries weakened them and perhaps complacency may have gone inside City’s squad as well. But Pep’s men are now back to winning ways after thumping Southampton 3-1 away last time around.

Liverpool:
Jurgen Klopp is already downplaying the tag of favorites in every pre-match and post-match interview. He knows that even a seven point gap can be erased in a matter of weeks such is the standard of teams in the Premier League.

And the biggest thing is that if City can lose, if a talented side such as them can suffer both at home and away, any team can and there’s no room for complacency. The title is a long way to go.

However, in the past, Liverpool have been at the top at Christmas only twice. And they didn’t win it, slipped, couldn’t cope with the pressure, and everybody knows that.

But now, this season, after looking at how Reds have been going about their business, and after looking at the depth and the talent at Klopp’s disposal, this feels that perhaps this could be the season.

Perhaps Liverpool won’t be getting another chance such as this in the near future. Because Chelsea are already building for the future, Manchester United can’t have a season as bad as this, Arsenal have shown what they can do under Unai Emery.

Liverpool have shifted to another gear since drawing 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Few have come by chance, the Merseyside derby certainly comes to mind, while the Wolves and Burnley clash could have ended differently.

Injured – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has speeded up his rehabilitation in the recent days. And there is a optimism that the former Arsenal star may yet feature this season. Also, centre-back duo of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez both are on the sidelines and won’t be featuring in this match.

Questionable – James Milner has missed the last couple of matches with a muscle problem and remains doubtful ahead of this match.
