LIV vs SAL Dream11 Match Preview, Team News, Lineups
Liverpool will look to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat in Napels when they host Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield, on Wednesday night.
This fixture will also mark the first time that a European game is played under lights at Anfield since that fateful night when Jurgen Klopp’s men overturned a 0-3 deficit from the first leg to beat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate following a 4-0 win in the 2nd leg.
Though we don’t expect another unbelievable night, Liverpool will want to win this game at any cost after losing the opening game against Napoli a fortnight ago.
But Red Bull Salzburg will be a tough opponent, especially in their current form. The Austrian side has opened its new domestic campaign with 8 wins from the first nine games and also thrashed Genk 6-2 in the UEFA Champions League two weeks ago.

Liverpool Team News:
Forgotten men!
Xherdan Shaqiri has really found it difficult to get the game-time this season. Now the former Bayern Munich star is out with a calf injury and will be missing the game. The 27-year-old is liked by Anfield faithful and hope to see him in action soon.
Nathaniel Clyne suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Liverpool’s pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund and is out indefinitely. The 28-year-old has dropped down the pecking order after the emergence of Trent-Alexander Arnold and spent the 2nd half of last season on-loan at Bournemouth.
Few are doubtful:
Goalkeeper of the year Alisson Becker returned to the Liverpool training ground last week but will miss the game due to the lack of match fitness.
From what we saw from Naby Keita’s first Liverpool start this season, the former RB Leipzig man needs to sharpen his match fitness. He may not be involved.
Klopp could make a change or two!
Though the backline will most probably be the same, changes could happen in the midfield.
Captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho should start, but Georginio Wijnaldum may make for either James Milner or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Liverpool Probable XI:
Adrian (GK), Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Wijnaldum / Milner / Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firmino
Red Bull Salzburg Team News:
Salzburg will be without Alexander Walke, Antoine Bernede and Marin Pongracic for the trip to Anfield.
Erling Haaland has been struggling with an illness leading up to this game, but boss Red Bull Salzburg boss Jesse Marsch hinted that the Norwegian prodigy is expected to be fit for the match.
Visitors could surprise the hosts:
Red Bull Salzburg come into this game with spring in their legs. Sure, after the performance in game-1 against Genk, the visitors have every right to feel confident for their chances.
Jesse Marsch has players like Hwang Hee-Chan and Erling Haaland at his disposal who are on fire at the moment.
Red Bull Salzburg Probable XI:
Stankovic (GK), Ulmer, Ramalho, Onguene, Kristensen, Mwepu, Junuzovic, Minamino, Szoboszlai, Hee-Chan, Haaland
Likely to score:
- For Liverpool – Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah
- For Red Bull Salzburg – Hwang Hee-Chan, Erling Haaland, Dominik Szoboszlai
Captain and Vice-Captain options:
Sadio Mane: Liverpool’s Senegalese trump card is one of Jurgen Klopp’s main in this team.
Mohamed Salah: No other player has scored more for Liverpool since the Egyptian turned into a Red two season ago.
Roberto Firmino: Outlandishlgly selfless for a striker, and it was another instance at the weekend when he passed the ball to Mane when other strikers would have had a pop.
Wing-backs Arnold and Robertson: Racked up a record assists last season for wing-backs, and the duo is in red hot for this season as well. Watch out for their crosses.
Hwang Hee-Chan: Didn’t put a foot wrong in the last Champions League game as he got himself a goal and two assists.
Erling Haaland: The young Norwegian sensation has been attracting interests from the top clubs following an incredible hattrick in his debut UEFA Champions League game a fortnight ago.
Suggested combination:
- GK: Adrian
- Defenders: Van Dijk, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Onguene
- Midfielders: Mane, Salah, Janujovic, Mwepu
- Attack: Firmino
Captain: Salah
Vice captain: Sadio Mane
