LIV vs NEW Dream11 MATCH PREVIEW:
Liverpool will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League when they host Newcastle United at the fortress Anfield, on Boxing Day, in Liverpool on Wednesday night (IST).
Liverpool:
Jurgen Klopp’s men are the only side in the Premier League not to lose a league game this season. They have played some tough away games this season and came unscathed from all of them until now.
There have been some potential banana skin matchups and many moments where Reds lost the hold of the match. But as Dejan Lovren summed up the Wolves’ performance that had it been a few seasons ago, Liverpool may not have come away with all the three points from the west midlands.
The Friday’s trip to Molineaux was one of those games where everything could have turned to dust for Klopp. The start also suggested towards a potential bolt from the blue kind of days for the 18-time English champions. But as it has been all season, one deadly attack and the goal turned the tie in favour of Liverpool. Van Dijk’s 2nd half goal, which was his first in the league for the Anfield based side, killed the game eventually.
Also, Manchester City’s uncanny result against Crystal Palace made the win all sweeter as for the first time this season, the Reds are more than a win clear at the top. And with City on the road in their next two games where they will be against two rejuvenated sides in Leicester City and Southampton, the gap could be more before the titanic clash between Liverpool and the Cityzens take place at the Etihad Stadium on January the third.
Newcastle United:
The Toons are 15th in the table heading into this match. The bad start to the new season has been put to bed with the recent solid performances in both home and away games. However, Newcastle are still in danger of dropping down into the bottom three as only five points separate them and 18th placed Burnley.
Rafael Benitez will always be cherished at Anfield after he orchestrated perhaps the biggest result in the club’s history back in 2005. No matter which side Benitez brings to Liverpool, the Kops and the general public never forget to applaud the Spaniard.
But the time has certainly changed in the last decade or so. Liverpool are under both a new manager and owners and aiming for the highest perch once again. While Benitez is trying to steady the ship at Newcastle which he once hailed as the sleeping giants of the world football.
His relationship with owner Mike Ashley may not be warm enough but the former Real Madrid manager still enjoys an unbreakable rapport with the Toons’ army.
