LIV vs EVE MATCH PREVIEW:

Liverpool take on Everton in the 231st installment of Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Everton finished the last season at a respectable 7th position and took home a tag of ‘best of the rest’ as they finished a massive 15 points clear of 8th placed Southampton.

The Toffees’ boardroom backed the good work of Ronald Koeman as they spent a whopping £142 on the new recruits in the summer of 2017.

But a poor start to the campaign dashed all the hopes of Everton as they hovered near-about relegation zone. As a result, Koeman got the sack and was replaced by Sam Allardyce.

The results improved immediately and Everton shrugged away all the lingering relegation fears. Though the Blues are almost safe, the fans are still not fully behind the Big Sam whose long-ball tactics and 10-men behind the ball approach isn’t reading anything substantial particularly against big teams and also in home games.

So if Allardyce needs a game to change the fan’s verdict towards him, then he couldn’t have asked for a better setting than the one called Merseyside derby.

Liverpool, on the other hand, moved 10 points clear of 5th placed Chelsea with a come-from-behind win over Crystal Palace in their last Premier League match which was followed by a scintillating 3-0 win over Manchester City in the 1st leg Quarterfinal in the Champions League.

However, the Reds may be without some key players in this match. Mohamed Salah hobbled off the pitch against Manchester City and is unlikely to feature against Everton.

Also, Jurgen Klopp may opt to give rest to some of his key players who started the game against City to keep them fresh for the all-important 2nd leg which will be played on Tuesday at the Etihad.
